December 2, 2023:  Indivisible Montgomery meeting with Field Team 6

Indivisible Montgomery’s December 2nd member meeting featured Deb Verla, from Field Team 6.  Field Team 6 has a simple motto:  Register Democrats, Save the World.  Field Team 6’s plan for winning in 2024, involves reaching out to millions of unregistered likely Democrats using its one-of-a-kind database and every outreach method possible (phone and text, postcard, email and targeted ad, and in-person too), where new Democratic voters will make the most impact – in the most flippable states and districts.

Deb is a skilled trainer and became involved with Field Team 6 through her local Indivisible group – Indivisible Beach Cities (CA), where she is still active.  She started by leading in-person voter drives and  during the pandemic moved indoors and learned how to do this work digitally.  Deb provided a great deal of background information about Field Team 6, demoed their well-organized web page and then focused on how activists can work with Field Team 6 to help register likely Democrats.  Deb spent the rest of the meeting demoing their “Bring Your Own Phone” texting method to contact potential Democrat voters.  This method is a low-cost alternative to automatic dialing text methods.  In brief the method works:  

• The volunteer uses their own computer, not their cell phone, and a Texting App installed on their computer.  The volunteer’s actual cell phone number is not revealed.  
• The volunteer accesses the Field Team 6 database, gets the name and number of an unregistered likely Democrat in a swing district, and sends the initial text message using their desktop texting software. 
• The text message includes a link to help the potential voter register to vote. 

Deb also explained how Field Team 6 measures its impact – which involves doing a before and after comparison of the voter rolls to see if the contact registered after they were contacted by Field Team 6.  She provided a number of helpful links for folks to learn more about Field Team 6, and to sign up for further training.  Training is offered each week.   Many thanks to Deb and her team at Field Team 6!
